About the Speaker:

Prof. Pulickel Ajayan is the Benjamin M. and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor in Engineering at Rice University, Houston, USA. He is the founding chair of Rice University’s Materials Science and NanoEngineering department, and one of the leading materials scientists in the world. Professor Ajayan's research interests include synthesis and structure-property relations of nanostructures and nanocomposites, materials science and applications of nanomaterials, energy storage, and phase stability in nanoscale systems. He is one of the pioneers in the field of carbon nanotubes and was involved in the early work on the topic along with the NEC group, Japan. He has published more than 1100 journal papers with nearly 180000 citations and an h-index of 200, based on the ISI database.

Prof. Ajayan has received several awards including the Spiers Memorial Award by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Senior Humboldt Prize, MRS medal. He has been elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), AAAS, foreign fellow of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences (India). He is on the advisory editorial board of several materials science and nanotechnology journals and on the boards of several nanotech companies. He has been part of two Guinness Book of World records, one for the creation of the smallest brush and the other for creating the darkest material.
