Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a legal concept that confers certain rights by the State to an inventor/author for their intellectual creativity such as inventions, works of art, literature, lyrics etc. Today, the intellectual property system is a dynamic tool for wealth creation providing an incentive for enterprises and individuals to create and innovate. They are good for business, benefit the public at large and act as catalysts for technical progress. In today’s knowledge based economy, the role of IPR cannot be denied, therefore, it becomes essential for every individual, especially, for the people involved in R&D to keep themselves abreast of the growing significance of IPR.
This session covers the basics of Intellectual Property Rights and the differences between the different types of intellectual property rights with emphasis on Patent protection and the procedure involved in seeking such protection.
