Applications invited for the contractual post of Public Outreach Officer

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) is an autonomous institute established by the Ministry of Education (GoI), dedicated to scientific research and science education.

Job Description

Outreach activities of the Institute including the Science Activities Centre, Crucible and field exhibitions. Design and development of exhibits, audio-visual demonstrations, preparation of educational write up for exhibition panels, brochures etc. Planning, organizing & conducting field exhibitions for different categories of students, teachers & general public.

Assisting in day-to-day activities and administration of the Crucible and field exhibitions. Evaluation of artefacts exhibited, repository and carry out necessary maintenance/ replacement. Conduct extra-curricular activities for BS-MS and MSc students as a part of their academic curriculum.

Nature of the Post

Temporary (on Contract) for 1 year (extendable)

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

1. Qualifications
   1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Sciences
2. Experience
   1. Experience of student supervision in science projects, group activities, public outreach programs.
   2. Hands on experience in fabricating/assembling experimental setups for demonstration in various areas of science and engineering.
   3. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and working knowledge of communicating in Hindi. Draft related documents for internal and external communications.
   4. Publications in science outreach platforms (books/website/print media etc.)
   5. Skills to generate multimedia content using various soft tools. Experience in photography/videography for science outreach and popularization activities.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

1. Qualifications
   1. Doctoral degree in a relevant area
2. Experience
   1. Experience in networking with international academic partners or science related consortia.
   2. Teaching experience at university/college level

Salary

Upto INR 75,000 per month (commensurate with experience) consolidated

Age

Maximum 45 years
