Our research group – Biomedical & nano-Bioscience Engineering Lab. (BnBEng.LAB) at School of Physics (SoP), IISER TVM – focuses on study of interaction of light and/or sound with soft matter (more particularly, biological samples and soft tissues) and its exploitation for development of imaging modalities suitable for imaging of sample at wider range of size from biological specimens (of the order of um-mm) to clinical tissue sample (~cms). In other words, the research group focuses on design and development (instrumentation) of non-destructive and non-invasive (multi-dimensional) imaging system for diverse applications including Biology, clinical diagnosis, and therapeutic treatments. The research areas of interest can be broadly sub-grouped:

  • Photoacoustic imaging (both microscopy and tomography) from experimental and numerical aspects
  • Light sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) (also known as Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM))
  • Laser speckle contrast (LSC) imaging
  • Pre-clinical validation studies in animal and disease models, and human subject (volunteers)
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) for image reconstruction
