One Hundred Years of Superconductivity

Superconductivity was discovered by Kammerling Onnes in 1911. In the last 100 years this remarkable and unique quantum phenomena has constantly held the attention of physicists and technologists. In an attempt to understand the mechanism of superconductivity, significant advancement have been made in basic science and technology. After a quick review I will focus on the present status of the field. I will end with a recent prediction of ours [1] on the possibility of room temperature superconductivity in a p-pi bonded system namely doped graphene.
