The $3 million award will be shared between two groups of laureates: the three founders of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), who will each equally share $1 million (Ronald W. P. Drever, Caltech; Kip S. Thorne, Caltech, and Rainer Weiss, MIT) and 1012 contributors to the experiment, who will each equally share $2 million. Three members of Dr. Archana Pai's group (including two Ph.D. students --- Haris M K and M. Saleem) are amongst the IndIGO-LSC group who were part of the discovery.
