Dr. Nishant KT has been awarded the Wellcome Trust-DBT Intermediate fellowship for the project “Genetic analysis of crossover assurance mechanisms facilitating meiotic chromosome segregation”. The project proposes to study how crossover number and placement are optimized among chromosomes to facilitate segregation. In humans, errors in this process are associated with birth defects (such as Down syndrome, congenital heart disease) in offspring.
